ABOUT ME
Hello! I am currently a student at Flowery Branch High School, and this website is a project for my Honors Mentorship class.
For this class I mentor under my theatre teacher as her assistant director for musicals including Little Shop of Horrors, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee which I will be solely directing.
My official research project initially began with my curiosity in large-scale, high-budget Broadway productions and why they have seemingly become more prevalent, but my drive behind this research began with Jake Gyllenhaal. It was around the time the play Constellations by Nick Payne opened on Broadway that I became angered because I didn't live in New York. Not living close to Broadway meant I could not see my favorite (and the hottest) actor in the world strut his stuff on the big stage, and the fact that Constellations is a straight play meant that no one would put a bootleg of it on YouTube because they only care about crumby musicals. This flare of anger towards uncultured bootleggers caused me to become furious with "the man" of Broadway who decided that musicals would dominate every single aspect of it and cause me to feel like I am dying, or at least that is how I felt at the time. Upon calming down, I began to wonder if big-name musicals are actually hurting the Broadway industry, and thus my research began.
One day while researching, I stumbled upon a research paper that detailed the legal mess that copyright and ownership laws are for theatrical content, and something sparked in my brain. I thought back to the countless libraries of bootlegged Broadway recordings I knew of, how I couldn't see "Constellations" because of my geographic location, and I wondered "Why is it that there's such a demand for Broadway content online, but Broadway is pretty much the only entertainment industry that hasn't utilized the internet and other new digital technology?". Thus, this project really started, and this website was born as a resource for you to sift through my findings in search of the beautiful truth, baby.
